If you follow me on twitter or listened to me complaining about my hair at the Body Shop event (haha sorry), then you will know that i have had major issues with it being greasy as soon as i'd washed it.
This did happen on the morning of the Body Shop event, much to my dismay...
It just wouldn't stop being greasy.
I tried...
Here are some GLORIOUS photos of my lovely greasy head.
You may vom if needs be.
I know i dont like seeing people with greasy hair haha

These photos were taken literally 2 minutes after blowdrying.
Sorry if the photos were crap...its hard taking a photo of the top of your head.
The greasyness is in the crown and some in the fringe.
My hair has been SO limp, even backcombing didnt achieve any volume.
So ladies..the diagnosis is...
Product Build Up
*grrr*
My mum always used to tell me about product build up, and i'd be like
"yeh yeh, but thats what you shampoo you're hair for"
O_o
I seriously would have given up all hope and bought some expensive hair treatment or gone to the hairdressers if it hadn't have been for Arlene (Dressjunkie)
She advised me to get the Boots product build up shampoo & linked me to her REVIEW.
Please read it, its waaay better than mine :)
She had the same problem and voilaa, this little beauty of a product sorted it all out.
It was £2.93 in Boots & looks like this...

I dont often see many hair products that offer to remove build up product, and actually, when i was scouring the shelves for this..i saw nothing that claimed to do the same thing.
I have just done the test & washed my hair twice with the shampoo & nothing else.
No conditioner, no serums or lotions before or after blowdrying.
*gasp*
The results are far better than i expected.
I dont have any grease in my hair, it feels SO soft and sleek. It actually feels as though i've had my hair washed and blowdryed in a salon.
I seriously cannot thank Arlene enough.
and remember girls, don't ever underestimate the "own brands"
♥
It just wouldn't stop being greasy.
I tried...
- Changing Shampoo & Conditioner
- Not using any Conditioner
- Batisting it out...that didnt work. No amount of dry shampoo would lift it.
- Not using any products before blowdrying

Thanks for the review lovely, I shall be purchasing tomorrow at Bluewater! xx
ReplyDeletewow! i'm definitely going to buy some of this after work this week. my hair gets so greasy and limp so i have to wash it everyday!
ReplyDeletegreat post zoe! ♥ xx
I suffer with the exact same thing, my hair is greasier then a kebab shop, but I don't really use much product on my hair so not sure this will work...I will deffo pick it up and try it out though :D Love you Zo xxx
ReplyDeleteI really like the cheap Boots Expert cleanser! It's great when you find cheap but really good products.
ReplyDeleteWill have to try this!x
I think Batiste has caused product buld up in my hair! Need to get myself some of this too :(
ReplyDeleteOoh I've never seen this before - it looks great. I'll need to grab some of this :). xo
ReplyDeleteI like using Neutrogena's anti-buildup for this same reason! This one sounds great too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review, will check this out next time I'm in Boots x
ReplyDeletei had the same thing happen =/
ReplyDeletei now use a purifying shampoo from Rusk and just combine it with my normal shampoo and it works wonders :) too bad we don't get this product in the US =/ xox
I'm having the exact some problem at the moment!! Nothing I try seems to make any difference, I'm blaming CHI products though. I'm definately going to have to try the boots stuff xx
ReplyDeleteJust a tip, because I have a greasy scalp too...
ReplyDeleteWhen you shampoo your hair, leave the shampoo on for about 3-5 minutes. Rinse it. Appy conditioner and quickly rinse it out, this gives it no time to grease up your scalp.
I also discovered a really good shampoo & conditioner for greasy hair. It's Aussi Cleanse and Mend. I don't know if they sell it in the UK. Here's the link... http://www.aussiecanada.ca/ca_en/collections/cleanse_and_mend/
GOOD LUCK!
I suffer the same problem - batiste usually works but then it doesn't last v long.
ReplyDeletei had the same problem for awhile & i actually found that herbal essences has a shampoo out (i could only find it in ONE walgreens store in my area) called "degunkify" [cute name, i know]. It looks a lot like their other shampoo called "drama clean" but this one is like the drama clean formula on crack. I use it once I notice my hair is getting like this and it's all better. It also has mint in it, so it's tingly. aaand it's $4, so you can't beat that!
ReplyDeleteif you're looking for an alternative - figured i'd throw it out there.
xoxo
i havent experienced product buildup but if i do this is good for future reference, thanks :)
ReplyDeleteThats brilliant that good old boots could sort out the problem! It would probably be no harm for us all to do this every once in a while!!!!
ReplyDeletewhen you wash your hair, dont massage your scalp too much,it increases the natural oils on your scalp, hencce the greasyness, try this aswell
ReplyDeletehttp://beautyandtheblog23.blogspot.com/2009/07/i-love-my-hair-better-next-day.html
it really worked on my hair and its like £4
oh that happens to me too! thanks, i'll go buy it as soon as i can.
ReplyDeletelove your blog, keep posting the awesome posts :)
follow me??
xoxo
Sounds great. I could probably do with using that every now and then. x
ReplyDeleteI love Boots own Shampoos and Conditioners!! I recently bought Aussie miracle moist on a friends recommendation and it left my hair just like your's, the minute I had blow dried it.
ReplyDeleteNever again!!
x x
buildup is one thing that definitely stops me using an insane amount of products! i'm glad you found something to sort it though. if it's of any use, shampoos that get rid of product buildup are normally known as/branded as 'clarifying'.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great, I will definitely keep an eye out for it next time I'm in boots. x
ReplyDeleteYou can also try a Lush retro shampoo called "Antiphilitron". It has lemons in and basically removes all grease etc from your hair. Great for that squeaky clean feeling, just don't use it if you dye your hair :)
ReplyDeleteHunni it could be that you are washing it too much. I had the same problem recently. I had been washing my hair nearly every day. So I would wash it and the next day it would be greasy. I stopped washing it so much and am now only washing it twice a week. The 'cleanness' (if thats a word) seems to last longer now :)
ReplyDeletexxxxxxxx
My hair is SO bleached and dry it never goes greasy but it is occasionally limp. I'd be tempted to try this but a bit worried it might strip colour away :/ !?
ReplyDeleteI am tagging yoouuuuuuuuu
'WHAT *IS* YOUR MAKE UP BAG TAG' --> @ http://jenniferrosellen.blogspot.com/
If i have this 'tagging' all wrong then forgive me :/ i'm new to it !! xxx
I'm gonna have to try that as I got quite a lot of product build up in my own hair. It's so annoying.
ReplyDeleteit could also be because you werent rinsing your shampoo out enough...
ReplyDelete'build up-busting' shampoos are a different formula so theyre easier to rinse out as well as everything else..
the easiest way to think about it is that two tablespoons of shampoo take 4 minutes to rine out fully :)
xx
omg! i thought i was the only person this was happening to! to my hair looked & felt exactly like yours & still does ! i dont have any type of shampoo like that in the us "/ heres my email bksbellanikki@aol.com if you would be able to send that to me that would be great please get back to me!
ReplyDeleteI have Naked Detox shampoo and conditioner, its really good too! Although it does say the shampoo can take moisture out of your hair so conditioning is important, I don't know if the boots one is better for that?
ReplyDeleteWOO HOO i might try to get this somehow!!!! i'm always wonderin why on the worlds creation does my hair get so greasy after just 1 day of having it blown out!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have fine/damaged hair so when I get product build I look like a total greasy freak! Ugh. I usually just use head and shoulder shampoo (twice) then it's back to normal :) xx
ReplyDelete@cat - Oh trust me, i was rinsing good and proper :) xx
ReplyDelete@legseleven - I wash my hair around 2/3 times a week normally, i think im quite good with that :) xxx
ReplyDeleteoh wow, great review it's very true that own brands are underestimated.
ReplyDelete4got to say, only appy conditioner to mid lenghts and end,the scalp doesnt need it,due to natural oils, and conditioner applied to the root area stops you from getting volume, nobody wants that : S
ReplyDeleteamazing! I might have to buy my little brother some of this lol he uses way too much product on his hair and just covers the grease with more product.

omg thats happened to me before!! I thought my hair was just reacting with my shampoo! I need to buy that stuff next time im in boots! Really helpful post! xx
ReplyDelete@Beauty & the blog - I know i never apply conditioner to the roots xxx
ReplyDeletei'm going to try this! :D
ReplyDeleteaussie mega shampoo is good for getting rid of build up :) xx
ReplyDeleteA good tip I got off my hairdresser when she noticed I had build-up is to put your shampoo on DRY hair - it gives it a chance to emulsify and I guess kind of penetrate into your hair (water would mix with the oils in your hair forming a barrier). Then you add some water, lather up and continue with your washing routine as normal. I make sure I do this every few washes and it does leave my hair that extra bit soft and shiny.

i tagged you on my blog :)

Hey Zoe,
ReplyDeleteGreat review chick! What is also good for getting products out of your hair if you use lots of hairspray or wax is to put shampoo on your hair BEFORE you put water on. This technique is called 'Emulsifying' and it strips the product off your hair! The shampoo and condition in the usual way! x
wow this is a good thing to remember, my hair sometimes feels greasy still after i wash it!! xx
ReplyDeletei recently hung out with one of my friends, and she said that she hadn't washed her hair for a few days, and I asked her how come it looked GORGEOUS, and she said that she uses baby powder on her hair.. apparently it soakes up all the grease.. not too sure if it works or not as I don't really get greasy hair so don't take my word for it :) if you try it, let me know if it works :)
ReplyDeleteAs I commented earlier on I've had the same problem & the hair dresser recommended Pantene Ice Shine, ;O its amazingg I have lovely clean hair again and so shiny:) xx
ReplyDeleteOhh my god my hair did this today! Thankyou so much!
ReplyDeletex
This happens to me everytime I use Head and Shoulders. There's a chemical in it that reacts with my hair. It might be worth keeping an eye on the products you use and if it happens again avoid that shampoo for good! It's a nightmare!
ReplyDeletexx
I know this is an old post and you probably won't see this, but I was looking through your blog and I just wanted to say thank you for such a great post. I'm really hoping Boots still sell this product or do something similar as I really suffer with this problem and as I have long hair it gets such a hassle having to wash it so often. Fingers crossed they still sell it :)
ReplyDeletewww.prettypreciouspetite.blogspot.co.uk
Do they still sell this product???
