I was in Wilkinsons today (a cheapy shop which most normal people do try and avoid)
and i spotted their array of cheaper hairdyes and just thought "oh eck, im just going to grab one and go for it"
I normally like to find the packets with gorgeous girls with amazing glossy long locks..but today i was strictly looking at colour.
I knew that if i bought the lightest i could get away with without going totally ginger, it wouldn't go the colour on the front of the box but i wanted something that would at least lift the colour of my hair. It was left on for 20 minutes, and i sat back and watched, with my fingers crossed that it wouldn't go wrong.
The result?

Well, it's hardly a massive difference is it?
£3 well spent? I'd say so.
It's definitely lighter than before...with some tinges of ginge? (although it's actually not that bad, but im so paranoid, im walking around my house complaing of having a ginger tinge & i think i'm driving my mum mad)
It was an experiment at least...i know that really..a box dye is not going to achieve the colour i want unless i keep re dying it. Im thinking a trip to sallys and a bit of peroxide is actually a better bet, and if that fails..im going to have to fork out for someone to do it properly.. *grimace*
It's a start anyway! You don't get anywhere if you dont experiment ;)

oh, i love your description of wilkinsons! Spot on :') I'm always complaining to anyone who will listen about my tinge of ginge too :( xxx
ReplyDeleteIts a nice colour. Better than the time I tried to dye my hair light, believe that was ginge haha
ReplyDeleteI like the studded detail on your top by the way!
It looks very nice Zoe, very subtle, always go for an ash based colour to avoid the orange monster! i learnt the hard way haha xx
ReplyDeleteIt looks really pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt looks really lovely...your locks are so healthy and shiny! :)
ReplyDelete...xx
lol try having black hair that goes ginger in the light because of previous dying experiences. happy new year btw :) your hair looks lovely.
ReplyDeletei think if you really wanna go for it, then dye it again with the same stuff. your hair just needs to adjust to it.
ReplyDeletechanging your color is always fun!
I have the same dress as you! lol yours is a dress right? just plain black mini with the studded shoulders?
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely try out the "Caramel" idea you were going for in previous posts :) Honestly, I cant tell much difference with your hair now lol but i love your hair! So long, healthy and gorgeous looking!
it looks pretty good actually..nice!!
ReplyDeleteyou look amazing zo xx
ReplyDeleteYou could try L'oreal Couleur Experte, it's like a home highlighting kit and can be used to lighten brown hair. For your hair length and thhickness and the colour you want to achieve you'd probably need a couple of boxes x
ReplyDeleteomg , i love the new color :)
ReplyDeleteI think the difference is subtile but pretty I like it
ReplyDeleteHappy new year <3
it looks great! i would recommend ash blonde by loreal if you wanted to go even lighter :)
ReplyDeletegreat hair but i gotta know, what voluminizing product are you using?!
ReplyDeletexoxocathy
I like it babe. I so want to do mine, but Im like you... bit scared haha. I want to go lighter but Im scared of the whole ginger thing aswell. Its so much easier to go darker, but lighter is a risk when doing it yourself. My hairs really long like yours too, so Im gunna need 2 dyes. Did you use 2?
ReplyDeletexxxx
Is ginger really that bad? Spoken from a ginge I LOVE ginger hair, who wants to look like every other blonde/brunette?? PS. ditto on the volumising product? Theres only so much drying your hair upside down can do! xx
ReplyDeleteagreed! i'm ginger too and i love it, haha don't understand why gingers get made fun of all the time? only because it's different and well, everything different get's made fun of! but i agree ginger is beautiful

DeleteAwee Peeps, dont get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with ginger hair. I know many a ginger haired person..it's just not the colour i want to go. :) x
ReplyDeleteP.S the volume was achieved with a bit of backcombing on the crown and a smidgen of hairspray. :)
ReplyDelete@Luc - Maybe the Wilkinsons you work in is actually nice haha. The one near me is AWFUL! x

hmmm i dont understand why everyone has such negative things to say about ginger hair?? it's just another hair colour and everyone with it is very unique and i personally think it's a BEAUTIFUL hair colour. your hair looks great zoe, so what if it has a tinge of ginge? embrace it :)
ReplyDeletei agree with you 100%, i'm ginger and people with ginger hair get made fun of all the time! i mean you don't see any blondes/brunettes getting made fun of that way do you? i am so glad that someone agrees :')
