Injecting a bit of "Caramel"

For quite a while now i have been somewhat unsatisfied with my hair colour.
Around 10 months ago i had my hair coloured (only semi permanently) and a few highlights put through the front of my hair...i used to be ALOT more experimental with my hair; dying it darker & highlighting it myself when i was bored of the same old...even cutting it shorter.
I am really happy with the length..could possibly do with some more choppy layers and the ends trimmed but i can do that myself.
The colour?
I have always played it safe and gone darker than my natural shade...in all honesty..my natural hair colour is just bleurgh...it's not a deep dark shade, nor a light golden brown..just kindof ashy & boring.
Ultimately i'd LOVE to have my hair a colour like the images above which have been saved on my computer under the file "Hair" for months & i keep looking at them & trying to muscle up the courage to actually do it.
I was actually flicking through the Jan 2010 Cosmo & the model's hair on page 119 is EXACTLY how i want my hair to be. (if you have that mag to hand)
I know that really you should go darker for the winter & lighter in the summer, but honestly, my complexion is pale enough as it is..if i went any darker i think i'd look ill...i love having highlights because they actually bring warmth to my face...I'd love to look a little more "healthy" through the cold months.
To be honest though, the images above aren't THAT far from my natural colour, i guess it would just be a tinge of blonde-ness.
So yeh...thinking of actually just going on a whim and buying a hair dye tomorrow as an impulse.

Any advice on going lighter by a few shades?
Or even any box's of dye that you think could achieve something similar would be greatly appreciated..i dont fancy going down the bleach route..i can happily bleach my brothers hair..but i dont know if i could do my own haha.

  1. You are reading my thoughts:) seriously. I have the same "problem". I want this color in my hair so badly but i'm afraid of diying it permanently just because i get bored really fast[i want smth semi perm.]So I went today and bought some blondish hair dye[not permanently] and i'm thinking that i should do it.
Anyway, if you find smth please let us know.
    Good luck!
    Maya xx :)

  2. I think you should go for it. It would definitely suit you. I would go to a professional to get it done though, I tired lightening my hair at home and burnt it, it's now really frizzy - wasn't worth it at all!

    Good Luck x

  3. hiya lovely :]
Im a hairdresser and ive been all shades under the sun. black pink brown blonde but..caramel shades was my faveourite. a real cheryl cole honey toned colour, LUSH. theres 2 routes you can do this. If your hair is DYED brown id suggest highlights really fine non streaky ones. to lighten up the overall colour. then toned to a 8/0 shade. If your more your natural colour you could have an all over colour. just pasted on. I love the shade 7/17 or anything on the 7 level. the number 7 is pretty gold and caramel on its own. so i suggest something with an ashen undertone. (the number 1 is ash) ..sorta counter acts itself. giving the perfect caramel shade. too much caramel and itd be ginge! o.o ... i use wella Koleston. easy to find online :] to me Box colour are a nono when going lighter unless you know the product line well :] good luck! xoxoxox

  4. Go for it Zoe :) I think it would look gorgeous, and definitely 'warm up' your face haha. But you should get it done professionally though, I'd hate for your gorgeous hair to be ruined by the home-dye boxes. :/ xxxx

But i think you'd look amazing with the caramel coloured hair also :)
If its not far off your natural hair colour it will be great because if its too far away from your natural it will be a shock and we all dont wnt 2 dye our hair and hate it lol :)

Personally i think you always look amazing hun and caramel coloured hair will so suit you so i say go for it hun ,buy the dye (haha rhymes) i promise you will love it and if you dnt you can blame me haha ;)

  8. You know I actually thought that was you in the first pic! You'd really suit the coloru but agree with the girls above, definitely go to the hairdressers - I had a huge disaster a huge years ago with a box of highlighters that turned my hair ginger and cost me £110 to get it corrected. Oh the horror!

  10. I would get a few slices of caramel added at the hairdressers, it would look lovely on you. I have had BAD home dye experiences so I would never personally recommend a box dye but I think a change would be nice. Afterall if you don't like it you can dye it back dark! :) xx

  11. i think those pictures are stunning, and its making me hate my hair now haha! i agree though, its not all about going darker in winter, often the opposite makes you look more alive and enhances your complexion. go for it! x

  12. This is exactly what I want to do! Only yesterday I was staring at a picture I'd found of a girl with the most gorgeous hair colour and cut. I'd love to try out a lighter shade, I'm too scared to do it myself though, so now I have a job I'm thinking I should try a bit of experimentation at the hairdressers! I think that shade would look lovely on you xxx

  13. Is the 2010 Cosmo the one with Amanda Bynes on the cover? If so that's exactly how I want MY hair! lol I think you should go for it!

  14. Yup, just looked at Cosmo, love it :) I say go for it! I'm about to do the opposite and go a few shades darker, it's scary but it's only hair right? Fingers crossed for no disasters, and worst comes to worst hair grows fast hehe. Good luck girl! Let us see the results :) x

  16. zoe- my hair is similar to the photos above- light brown with really well blended soft highlights and I absolutely love it. It too me years to finally get it to a color I love (i went blonde and dark and almost black) but it's at a color I really love now. I think you'll be really happy adding some blended highlights, but it looks amazing the color it is now, too.

  19. if you've dyed your hair a brown with any reddish undertones definitely get it done professionally, the amount of people in my family that have ended up ginger from trying to lighten their auburn hair :')
caramel would suit you loads though, the girl in the second picture has gorgeous hair x

  20. I think you should definitely see a hairdresser! Explain you want to add some caramel tones to your hair. I doubt even bleach will be used? My hair is only 1 part bleach, 3 part dye and look how blonde it is?!
Caramel hair tones are so gorgeous - trying to persuade my mum to get some caramel put in, but she is all for the red at the moment!! xxx

  22. love the color, but can be tricky and turn out more red-ish! I tried a honey brown color at the hair stylist and it was really red-ish, so I needed to go darker...

  24. I'm in desperate need of a hair shake up! I had mine cropped in April but am now growing it into a chin length bob, which is a horrible process! I love that creamy caramel colour... might give it a go to perk up this in between stage!

  25. i think you would look STUNNING with the girl in the second photo's color

  26. I absolutely LOVE those colors above. I am very blonde, contemplating going darker. I am unsure of going too dark to begin with, because I'm worried my hair will go orange-y since it will likely fade like crazy! lol. anyhow, I just wanted to say that you have given me inspiration with these pics. The color is gorgeous and I think these colors would look beautiful on you :) xoxo
